About Woofs and Wags Pet Dog Training
WOOFS & WAGS was first established in 2000, initially running puppy training classes at the RSPCA at Somersby. After a while the classes were moved to Somersby Hall, and puppy classes are still held at the Hall as well as at 2 Vet Clinics.
I was awarded my Certificate IV in Dog Behavioural Training (Canine Good Citizen TM) in February 2001 after completing the Delta Society’s “Canine Good Citizen” Instructors course which was a combination of practical and theory over an 18 month period. I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, who offer ongoing education for its members. I keep up to date with current training techniques by regularly attending seminars and by reading (lots of) new books.
In 2004 I decided to leave my job in Sydney and work on my dog training business full time. Classes for adult dogs as well as private lessons were added to my training options, along with puppy classes.
The business has grown year by year and at the busiest times I can have up to 10 classes a week running, as well as seeing people for private lessons.
A large percentage of my business comes through vets all over the Central Coast, and word of mouth is also becoming more and more a source of business, as well as groomers, dog walkers, pet shops and the Yellow Pages.
Whilst I am a dog trainer, really the only dogs I train are my own. I teach people to train their dogs. So I do have great skills as a dog trainer, but I also have the skills to teach the owners to successfully train their dog(s) and to resolve behaviour problems.
I am owned by 2 Border Collies – Sophie who is 13 and Miko who is 6, and our newest addition Skye (a Border Collie x Koolie) who joined our family in April 2010 at 10 weeks.
We compete in agility competitions, and dances with dogs, as well as some obedience.
Sophie has attained 7 titles, including Agility, Jumping, Obedience, Endurance, and has just gained her Dances with Dogs Freestyle Starter title at age 13!
Miko currently has 6 titles – including Agility, Jumping and Obedience and we are enthusiastically working towards more!
However, as much as we enjoy the training and competitions, our dogs are first and foremost our kids, very much our family and are very spoilt – why else would you share your life with a dog or 3 if you can’t enjoy the companionship, pleasure and fun that goes with it?
